Off-Season!

We are a few days into off-season. The players will continue to work out (a lot) and we will have the 2 weeks of practice allowed by the NCAA, but otherwise this is a quiet time of the year! Well, for coaches anyway, the girls are busy finishing off the semester school-wise and making up the school work they missed traveling.

Friday we had the grand-opening of the Mack and Jonnie Day Golf Facility. It was a beautiful 70 degree day and we got to show off the facility to lots of Tennessee VIPs and former Vol golfers. They even showed video of the ceremony on the jumbotron at the UT-Ole Miss football game today, awesome! Click here to read more about it.

Record Setting Win at Mercedes!!

The Lady Vols hosted the Mercedes Benz Championship last weekend and WON with an awesome record setting performance. We shot 15 under as a team, breaking our previous best 54 hole total, and won the tournament by 20 strokes!! Counting 4 scores for 3 days and shooting 15 under is pretty awesome!

We were lead by TOURNAMENT CHAMPION Erica Popson, who shot 9 under par and won in a one hole playoff by making a 20 footer for birdie. This was Erica's first career win and I'm sure there will be many more to come! Sara Monberg also had an awesome week, shooting a career best 7 under par and finished 4th. On the last round, 5 of 8 Lady Vols broke par which is a sign of just how good this team is. Erica, Sara, Lauren, Kaitlyn and Rebecca all shot 71... Awesome!!

We have a break in action until the first weekend in November, so we have been enjoying some awesome fall weather and have been working hard! We even made a trip to the Honors Course in Chattanooga for a special day of practice.

Lady Vol Golf Clinic to benefit Komen

Today the Lady Vol golf team put on a golf clinic for over 50 participants at our new facility. It was a chilly day, but everyone had a great time and learned a lot from our players. Great JOB Lady Vols!!

Golfweek Challenge in Vail

We had a very fun trip to Vail, CO for the Golfweek Conference Challenge. After a shaky first round the Lady Vols found their games and came on strong the last two days to post a solid finish. The weather was awesome and the scenery beautiful! The only thing missing?? OXYGEN! The course was a tough walk and there was lots of huffing and puffing trying to get used to the thin air at 8000 feet!

Fall Preview

We have one tournament of the 2010-2011 season under our belt! We traveled to College Station, TX to play in the Fall Preview at the Traditions Club, site of the 2011 NCAA Championship. We had a fun week, although we didn't play our best. We enjoyed the first half of a Texas A&M football game, a fun experience, but TOTALLY different than watching the VOLS in Neyland Stadium. We debuted our new adidas dresses in the practice round and had fun signing some autographs!

First Day at our NEW Facility

Friday was our first team practice at the 4.5 million dollar Mack and Johnnie Day facility, affectionately know by the women's team as "the Mack". This place is AMAZING. We have two huge bent greens and a bermuda green. The practice tee is 100 yards long and we have 3 practice holes. Our superintendant and his crew worked diligently all summer in 95 degree weather to our facility open for fall practice - THANKS!!

Season Is Over!

Another season is in the books for the Lady Vols! We finished 19th at the NCAA Championship, not exactly what we were hoping for, but the girls did their best! We had a great trip and UNC-Wilmington did a great job hosting. They really made it a special event and made it a big deal! Our room keys at the hotel even had the NCAA logo on them, pretty cool! The event is capped off with a banquet sponsored by the National Golf Coaches Association where end of the year awards are given. The Lady Vols took home a few honors, and we are very proud of that!

Nathalie Mansson - 2nd Team All-American
Erica Popson, Diana Cantu, Nathalie Mansson - East Region All Region Team
Sara Monberg, Lauren Spurlock - NGCA Academic All-Americans

Congratulations Lady Vols! I'm proud of you! Have a great summer!!!

ESPNU Lady Vol Golf Interview

Check out the video that was done about the Lady Vol golf team at the SEC Championship. It was cool to have cameras all over the place, but made the first round even more unnerving! It's a great story about the international flair of our awesome golf team!

Nathalie's 21st and the NCAA

Today is Nathalie's 21st birthday and she was surpised to have the NCAA Championship field sing Happy Birthday at our welcome dinner. She also cozied up to this "sailor" for fun. I also had to include the photo of Andrew and Diana dancing!

NCAA Championship!

We have arrived at the NCAA Championship for the 6th time in 7 years! We are in Wilmington, NC and are playing at the Country Club of Landfall on the Pete Dye course. Today we played our first practice round, then had a welcome banquet on the U.S.S North Carolina Battleship, that was cool! We explored the ship and you can see in the photos had some fun along the way. Tomorrow is another practice round, then the real fun starts Tuesday!

NCAA Bound!

After and AWSOME 2nd place performance at the NCAA East Regional, we are headed to the NCAA Championship next week in Wilmington, NC. We had 3 players earn All-Region honors by finishing in the top 10 at the tourney - Erica, Diana and Nathalie. Congratulations to them! A tradition at Tennessee and on the golf team is to paint "The Rock" after good finishes, so I've included a photo of the team's handiwork!

We had our annual awards banquet Sunday night at Cherokee C.C. to end the season. The following awards were presented:

Player of the Year - Nathalie Mansson
Carrie Cole Effort Award - Sara Monberg
Team Before Self - Diana Cantu, Lauren Spurlock
Weight Room Award - Lauren Spurlock
Senior Gifts - Diana Cantu, Ginny Brown

We said our goodbye to our seniors, which was emotional as always. They have made a huge impact on our program and we will miss them!

Regional Champs!

The Sacred Heart girls team won Regionals yesterday to advance to the State Tournament this Thursday. Alexa won individually with a 42, Francis was 5th with a 53 and Maya shot 57 for 10th. Hopefully the Lady Vols will be as successful at their Regional this week!

Time to Brag about my own Kids!

Yesterday was the middle school golf district tournament and the Sacred Heart Girls team WON the title and will advance to Regionals next Monday. Alexa and Maya are both on the team along with their friend Francis, and Luis is the coach. Alexa WON the individual title as well! Congratulations to my family!

SEC Awards

Southeastern Conference (SEC) Awards were announced today and I'm proud to say three Lady Vols received awards. Nathalie Mansson was named First Team All-SEC, Diana Cantu was named to the Second Team and Erica Popson made the Freshman Team. We didn't have a good Conference Championship, but Erica shot 5 under par, to finish in a tie for first. She ended up losing on the 2nd play off hole which was a heartbreaker. But it was an awesome finish anyway!
